At the facilities of Metropolitan Santiago, which will host SeguridadExpo 2025 from October 1 to 3, the activity “Self-defense tools for the safety of municipal inspectors” took place, a demonstrative talk on the operation of “BolaWrap”, a non-lethal immobilization tool that will begin to be used by Carabineros in the coming months after a white run period in the Tarapacá Region. With the presence of the mayor of La Reina and treasurer of the Association of Municipalities of Chile (AMUCH), José Manuel Palacios; the director of the Territorial Security Observatory of AMUCH, Esteban Díaz and more than 25 security directors from different municipalities in the country, the demonstration of this type of restraint tool, which will be one of the great novelties of SeguridadExpo 2025, took place. Kota Wada Suzuki, representative in the country of the company dedicated to IT and security, Nichiei Chile, made a graphic illustration of how this apprehension device works and said that this equipment “is designed with human rights, people’s safety and efficiency in order to control an unsafe situation”. BolaWrap is a tool designed to immobilize and capture people without causing damage or injury. Upon firing this non-lethal weapon, a Kevlar cord is discharged and emits a loud sound to control the target. Despite being lightweight, it resists cuts, stretching and burns. Intended as a non-lethal restraint tool, BolaWrap restrains the target and allows for a safe, remote arrest to avoid injury. The manager of SeguridadExpo, Rodrigo Bastidas, valued this type of initiative, which represents a significant advance in the use of non-lethal technologies applied to public safety. “The fact that this demonstration was held at Metropolitan Santiago, the venue for SeguridadExpo2025, reflects our commitment to being a space where innovation, prevention and concrete solutions to the security challenges facing the country converge,” he said. For his part, the mayor of La Reina and treasurer of AMUCH, José Manuel Palacios, expressed his gratitude for this type of event, which not only shows how this tool works, but also allows for discussions on financing for municipalities. “We mayors are elected to improve the quality of life of our neighbors and security is quality of life”, he emphasized. From October 1 to 3, Metropolitan Santiago will host the largest leading international meeting of convergent security in Chile: SeguridadExpo 2025, an instance that consolidates itself as the fundamental meeting point for security experts who will discuss the challenges and innovative solutions within the field. We are waiting for you!
