With the participation of more than 150 national and international companies and broad representation from municipalities, police forces, and the armed forces, the ninth edition of SeguridadExpo 2025, the leading trade fair for technology and innovation applied to security and civil and military protection in Chile and Latin America, was inaugurated in Metropolitan Santiago.
The ceremony was led by the Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Carolina Leitao; the president of the Association of Municipalities of Chile and mayor of La Reina, José Manuel Palacios; the Director General of the Carabineros, Marcelo Araya Zapata; and the general manager of FISA, Carola Fuentes. Also in attendance were the Director General of the Investigative Police, Eduardo Cerna; the Director of the AMUCH Territorial Security Observatory, Esteban Díaz; as well as military authorities and representatives from various countries.
During her speech, Undersecretary Carolina Leitao highlighted the transformations driven by the creation of the Ministry of Public Security, headed by Luis Cordero, emphasizing the entry into force of the Undersecretariat of Private Security. “A more robust regulatory system will provide greater certainty to a growing industry and strengthen the role of private security in supporting public security. And here I want to highlight something very important: a fundamental element of the new private security law is how technology complements the work of private security,” she said.
The authority also highlighted the progress made in intelligent preventive patrols implemented in 55 municipalities, which have led to a reduction of between 4% and 8% in crimes committed against the families involved. He added to this the expansion of the SITIA artificial intelligence teleprotection system, which integrates more than 2,000 cameras and 705 license plate readers and currently extends to regions such as Magallanes, Bío Bío, Maule, and Ñuble.
“These actions demonstrate the commitment of the State and the Government to strengthening their capabilities in the face of criminal phenomena,” added Leitao.
AMUCH President José Manuel Palacios emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing security issues, highlighting SeguridadExpo 2025 as a space that allows for learning about innovations and building bridges with the public sector. “Municipalities are the first point of contact for our residents, who report unresolved security issues to us. If we want to move forward and solve these vulnerabilities, we must also empower the role of municipalities,” he said.
Along the same lines, the Director General of the Carabineros, Marcelo Araya, praised the fair as an opportunity to strengthen joint efforts within the security ecosystem. “SeguridadExpo allows us to continue growing, continue advancing, and, most importantly, continue fighting organized crime and protecting our beloved homeland, our beloved Chile,” he said.
Finally, FISA’s general manager, Carola Fuentes, highlighted the coordinating spirit of the fair. “This meeting is, above all, an invitation to dialogue and public-private cooperation. No single actor can face security challenges alone: it requires networks, alliances, and trust. SeguridadExpo aims to be that bridge where ideas are born, agreements are reached, and joint paths are charted to move toward a more protected country,” she said.
SeguridadExpo 2025 will continue on Thursday, October 2, and Friday, October 3, at Metropolitan Santiago with an international conference that will address the country’s prison system, the protection of critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, and proposals for moving toward a safer Chile.
