The journalist will participate in SeguridadExpo 2026, an international exhibition and conference to be held September 8–10 at Espacio Riesco. With a career marked by investigative journalism and coverage of crime cases, he shared his perspective on the security challenges facing Chile and the importance of creating opportunities for dialogue on this issue.

Emilio Sutherland will once again be part of SeguridadExpo 2026. After participating in the 2024 edition, he will return as an ambassador for the international exhibition and conference organized by FISA, part of the GL events Chile group, which will bring together the sector’s leading players to present solutions and analyze the challenges facing security in Chile.

With years of experience traveling the country and reporting on cases of crime and organized crime, Sutherland has become one of the most recognized voices when it comes to security. “After so many years of reporting, you come to understand that security isn’t some distant issue. You can run into an unpleasant situation right around the corner. It’s something that affects people’s daily lives,” he explained.

That experience, he explained, has also allowed him to view this phenomenon from a different perspective. “We often talk about security in terms of numbers. I’ve had to look at it from the perspective of the people involved. That’s why I think it’s important to have events like SeguridadExpo, where this issue is also addressed through solutions,” he emphasized.

Indeed, his constant interaction with people has shaped his understanding of this phenomenon. “I’ve heard many stories marked by crime. That also helps me understand the value of prevention and the tools that help address this problem from different perspectives,” he noted.

In that context, he praised the contribution that an event like this can make. “SeguridadExpo brings together people who are familiar with this issue from different fields. Technology, prevention, businesses, and institutions all come together in one place, and that’s key for the sector,” he said.

Finally, Sutherland also noted that the country faces a very different reality than it did a few years ago, which makes it essential to stay informed and prepared. “Security has changed. A few years ago, the nature of crime was different from what we see today. Violence levels are different now, and for that reason, it’s important to stay ahead of these kinds of developments. SeguridadExpo is key in this regard,” he concluded.

The security exhibition will take place September 8–10 at Espacio Riesco and will feature an exhibition of technologies, products, and services, as well as a program of events addressing topics such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data protection, border security, emergency management, and organized crime.
